Become a Private Pilot

The Private Pilot License (PPL) is most people’s first step into the world of aviation. You might have just done a few ‘trial ights’ or you might be part way through your PPL. Either way, are here to help you across the nish line.

PPL training typically starts with theory study and a series of exams, before moving on to the 45-hour ting course. Once you have your PPL, the world of aviation is open to you and you will be sure to go on and add further qualications, such as: a night rating, instrument rating or oat plane rating! As you can see the PPL is just the beginning of a life-long passion.

Description

CATS Aviation training systems are used by 1000’s worldwide to launch their commercial careers. Start your PPL on the CATS online system – with professionalism. 100 h mandatory training will be recorded on your personal course timer.

Course Requirements
There are 9 subjects for EASA PPL, as follows – PPL EASA Theoretical Knowledge Course:

  • Flight Planning & Performance
  • Human Performance & Limitations
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Operational Procedures
  • Principles of Flight
  • Communications

You are required to undertake 70 hours of self study, followed by 30 hours of ‘ground school’ study at the school. During the week long ‘ground school’, you will have an opportunity to take the ofcial EASA PPL exams.

Description

There are 7 subjects to pass at EASA level. Each stage is comprised of approximately 2 months of Distance Learning (average study time 15 hours per week), accompanied with web based training. A one day Ground School is at the end of each Stage (which comprises subject overviews and exam preparation) at our Luton Training Centre just prior to sitting each stage of EASA exams at a CAA examination centre (CATS Luton HQ, Gatwick, Leicester or Oxford).

The course enables you to commence Aeroplane or Helicopter Instrument ight training as an addition to your PPL or CPL licence.

UK Military Personnel – we are ELCAS approved.

Learning (average study time 15 hours per week), accompanied with web based training. A 4-day Ground School
is at the end of each Stage (which comprises subject overviews and exam preparation) at our Luton Training
Centre just prior to sitting each stage of EASA exams at a CAA examination centre (CATS Luton HQ, Gatwick,
Leicester or Oxford).
Heli students undertake Full Heli courses; this is only available via Distance Learning at Luton. UK Military Personnel
– we are ELCAS approved.

There are 6 subjects to study. The course is comprised of approximately one month of Distance Learning (average
study time 15 hours per week), accompanied with web based training. A 2 day Ground School is at the end of the
course (which comprises subject overviews and exam preparation) at our Luton Training Centre just prior to sitting
the exam. The course enables you to operate High Performance Aircraft as an addition to your PPL or CPL licence.

Course Requirements
● You must hold an ICAO PPL Licence.

There is 1 exam, administered by CATS. This covers 6 subjects:
